Damian Lillard Gets Brutally Honest About Bucks’ Early Playoff Exit
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

After enduring an Achilles injury that sidelined him for two games, Milwaukee Bucks superstar Damian Lillard returned in Game 6 against the Indiana Pacers. Despite Lillard scoring 28 points, the Bucks fell 120-98, ending their NBA playoff run.

Lillard’s return highlighted his dedication, though the Bucks were significantly handicapped without Giannis Antetokounmpo, who missed the entire series due to a calf strain sustained in early April.

“I don’t think I would’ve gone into the summer feeling good if I hadn’t tried to do all I could to be on the floor,” Lillard stated.

Reflecting on Antetokounmpo’s absence, Lillard expressed his disappointment, noting the impact of not having a full roster during critical playoff games.

“It’s definitely disappointing because you know how much better we are when he’s on the floor, and how much things change,” Lillard said.

The team’s struggles were evident as they faced the Pacers without their full strength, emphasizing the importance of health in the postseason.

The Bucks’ season was fraught with challenges, including a major coaching transition from Mike Budenholzer to Adrian Griffin, and then to Doc Rivers midway through the season.

Reflecting on his transition from the Portland Trail Blazers to the Bucks, Lillard viewed the season as a period of significant personal and professional growth.

“It was a roller-coaster of a year, but I think for me personally, it was a year of growth more than anything,” Lillard said. “It’s been some hard times. I haven’t denied that one time this year. Basketball and personally, it’s been some hard times, but it’s never been an issue with Milwaukee.

“I get the opportunity to play with Giannis. I’m playing with veteran players,” Lillard explained. “I know that the only thing we plan for is the opportunity to win the championship, and that’s why I made the decision to be a part of something like this.”

The Bucks aim to build on the lessons from this season’s disappointments. The team’s ability to adapt and strengthen will be crucial as they prepare for the next NBA season, aiming to leverage their experiences into a more successful playoff run.
